Just do it!
Are you going to the holiday christmas party at your workplace? Is it something you dread – or something to which you look forward?
For years, I attended holiday christmas parties – either for my workplace or for my husband’s workplace. I have to admit that I often dreaded the ‘dance’ part.
Cocktail hour was totally fun – reconnecting with people and seeing what everyone was wearing. Dinner was a blast – where the conversation around the table seemed to flow as smoothly as the wine.
But the dance…that was another story. I regularly found myself wanting to make a quiet exit once the DJ or band started up the tunes. I worried about the prospect of dancing (my husband is not a big dancer so this was hardly a huge concern for me!).??
I often wonder why I dreaded the dance so much.? Was it because I thought people might judge my ‘moves’?? Was I worried I wouldn’t measure up??
I’m not entirely sure what was behind my dread; but I do know that I did not want to allow?myself to ‘let loose’ in front of my co-workers (or, worse yet, ?my husband’s). It just didn’t seem to be the right time or place to ‘let go’.
Watching this video (thanks to The Happy Monkey Club) reminded me – the right time and place is anytime the spirit moves you.?
And, why not feel the spirit – at the office party?? If anything, this is exactly the place to feel safe and able to be vulnerable, to be yourself.
Will you dance this holiday season? Will you ‘let loose’ and move?
I plan on doing just that! And, I’ll not worry one bit about how I look…I’ll just do it!
